The chemical match was developed more
than a century ago and FLAM'UP, the new identity of SEITA matches,
a certified ISO 9001 company, is the leader in France in the
match market (70% of the market).
FLAM'UP manufactures in France and proposes a vast line of goods,
adapted to each use, with regularly renewed decorations. The
70 million matches manufactured each day in the Saintines Factory
are safety matches.
The safety matches conform to a certain number of defined standards.
In particular, they must blaze up only on the box stricker.
Indeed, contrary to the "universal friction match"
which blazes up on any kind of rough surface, the chemical composition
of the safety match head and of the box stricker are complementary.
The conflagration is possible only by rubbing down the match
on the stricker with enough strength to avoid a too easy lighting.
FLAM'UP matches are fireproofed to avoid the formation of embers
when extinguished : as soon as the flame is blown out the combustion
stops. They are treated and dried to eliminate pathogenic bacteria.
All FLAM'UP boxes are clearly marked with child safety precautions.
Safety instructions are on all matchboxes manufactured by FLAM'UP
:
- Keep out of the reach of children
- Keep in a dry place
- Rub the match following an in-and-out movement. |
|
Most of the matchboxes are individually filmed
or packed to guarantee the inviolability and safety in the shops.
FLAM'UP has paid special attention to protect the environment.
FLAM'UP matches are sulphur-free and their heavy metal content
is below the allowed level of the European standards.
A part of FLAM'UP matches are made in Tunisia.
In Tunisia as in France, FLAM'UP controls all the steps of the
manufacturing of its matches following the European standards
EN 1783 : 1997.
This standards defines a certain number of qualitative requirements
on the matches performance, their safety, their non-toxicity
and their harmlessness towards the environment.
In France, it is possible to obtain
the text of this standard by :

For several thousands
of years, the safeguard of fire had been one of the main
concern of humanity. First, the match had been a means
to transport fire. Then, a century and a half ago, the
match finally allowed to "make" fire, transforming
our daily life completely.
